What you need

  • Job posting
  • Resume you submitted
  • Interview time and format
  • Notebook or notes app

Every step

  1. 1

    Review the role

Read the job posting and mark its main responsibilities, required skills, and repeated language. Note any areas you want to clarify.

  2. 2

    Research the organization

Review the employer’s official website, products or services, customers, and recent announcements. Write down what you still want to learn.

  3. 3

    Choose your examples

Prepare three to five examples using situation, action, and result. Include a challenge, teamwork, learning, and a result you can explain honestly.

  4. 4

    Practice common questions

Practice a concise introduction, why you want the role, relevant strengths, a challenge you handled, and what you want next. Speak naturally rather than memorizing a script.

  5. 5

    Prepare questions

Ask about priorities for the role, how success is evaluated, team workflows, and next steps. Bring questions that help you decide whether the job fits.

  6. 6

    Confirm logistics

Check the address or video link, time zone, interviewer names, travel time, device, internet, and any documents requested.

  7. 7

    Choose interview materials

Set out appropriate clothing, a copy of your resume, notes, portfolio links, and a way to record follow-up details.

  8. 8

    Close and follow up

At the end, restate your interest if appropriate, ask about the timeline, and send a short thank-you note that refers to a specific part of the conversation.

Important warnings

  • Keep examples truthful and protect confidential information from prior employers.
  • Do not assume a job offer until the employer confirms it in writing.

Finished when

You can explain why the role fits, share relevant evidence, ask useful questions, and arrive with logistics confirmed.
